“It started out as a physical rivalité but when I realized that it helped my fictif health, it became a lifestyle choice for me.”
Before I became a regular runner, I never believed the people claiming to really ‘enjoy’ it. Pulling your justaucorps out of bed to pound the sidewalks (in notoire, no less) while gasping for breath, with sweat pooling under lycra clothing, seemed more like a personal hell than a fun form of exercise.
So no one was more surprised than me when late last year I found a frenzied ferveur for running. I holding Manière PublicationManaging Editor, Julia, to ignite the running spark inside me. An avid runner (we’re talking marathons, enfant), I suggested I try the Nike Run Discothèque app. She dynastie her praises so convincingly that I committed, downloaded the app and went on my first run.

Since then, my life has changed in really wonderful ways. My lifelong chronic anxiety has improved dramatically (my non-professional estimate is that it eased at least 70 percent) and I’ve found a form of movement I’m not afraid to do. In fact, on the days when I know I have a run to do later, I really habitus forward to it (something I never thought was barcasse with exercise).
Last year, I ran 10 km in Nike Melbourne Marathon Festival At the time, that was a huge achievement for me. This year I decided to push myself and allure for a half épreuve. The jogging process taught me a lot emboîture flexibility, perseverance, and listening to my justaucorps, but unfortunately a foot injury meant I had to put a pin in it for now.
If it wasn’t already obvious, I’m totally on the running allure, and there’s nothing I like more than talking to other runners who have the same ferveur for this. If you’ve been thinking emboîture running but don’t know where to start, you’ve reached out to the comedian Aurelia St Clair and model Malan Ajangboth Nike ambassadors who are currently jogging for the upcoming épreuve, for their advice and thoughts on the manège.
How délié have you been a runner, and what made you run in such a big way?
Aurelia St Distinct: I’ve been a runner since 2015 when I got into my first fun genre and started running to get ready. Although I ran the Nike Melbourne Half Épreuve in 2018 and 2019, I didn’t think of myself as a “runner” parce que I was only jogging for these races, but I wasn’t constantly running. Then the epidemic hit and you downloaded a traîne Nike Run Club app repeatedly.
I started with beginner friendly guided tours and entered a monthly 50k in-app destination rivalité. Panthère I got into the costume of running regularly, it became easier, and after that it started to be fun. As a podcaster, I love listening to stories. A series of guided tours take you on another athlete’s journey, such as Run with Joanie, with the first-ever women’s Olympic épreuve runner, Joan Benoit Samuelson. I’ve listened to him a few times now and he keeps revisiting the courses that I find motivating over and over again.
Malan Ajang: For as délié as I can remember, running has always been one of those activities that made me feel free. When the child was growing up, we had no games, gardens, or playgrounds, so the kids were very creative with games to make the day go by. My chouchou games included running! In my student years I was quartier of every interprétations team. Basketball, netball, track and field. Honestly, in hindsight, I wanted to be a professional athlete when I grew up!
Fast forward to adulthood and my unpredictable career path as I travel the world. Not only did running improve my physical health, it helped my fictif health (anxiety and loneliness) tremendously. Panthère I figured out how comfortable I feel when running, I started packing runners, finding the closest path no matter where I go.
When the pandemic hit, I started to feel the same overwhelming feelings I usually had when I traveled. And with lockdown rules tightening in Melbourne, I needed the sense of connection and community that came when I came across the Nike Run Discothèque app. I fell in love with various functions such as prime badges for the first 5k and 10k of Sunday rounds, best personal challenges, and monthly challenges. Suddenly I didn’t feel lonely, so I started sharing my experience on agréable media and got my family and friends on the run.
The app motivates me and I attiré my community to move their justaucorps for their daily 1 hour workout. On days when I’m flair unmotivated, I like to use guided motocross by my Nike trainers; Honestly, they made me run when I didn’t think I had it inside of me. All you have to do is get started! The app also taught me a lot emboîture running. It’s not just emboîture dissimilitude, but fictif clarity and alertness to what one feels like after a run.
In what ways has running changed your life?
ASC: I get the best ideas when I run, I call it clarity after running. I come to a lot of realization mid-range and find it easy to make decisions afterwards. Starting my day with a run feels like I’m setting myself up for success and makes me prioritize sleep over swiping the night before my run. Usually, my dog Kenzo runs with me, and it was a great way to connect with him too parce que he likes to run more than I do.
Master’s: Running has changed my life in many different ways. It started out as a physical rivalité, but when I realized that it helped my fictif health, it became a lifestyle choice for me. The biggest/best prime is that my fictif health is less stressful when I’m running and being free in the open with the sound of wind, trees, and water.
It also strengthened my relationships with friends and family. I run every Sunday with my brothers, and this has become a bonding experience. I also run with my friends when someone is flair down or anxious parce que releasing endorphins while running is better than a night out.
What did you learn emboîture yourself during your last épreuve jogging?
ASC: Jogging has taught me how strong I really am, and that consistency is paying off. Looking at the duration and pace of my runs a year ago a contrario now is very satisfying and motivates me to keep going. Earlier this year I was flair a little tired but somehow still found time to run. As usual, I was listening to a guided fissure, and Coupé Bennett said something along the lines of “You still have 50 miles left even when your quadrige is empty.” I think emboîture it all the time when I hit a wall right now. Running highlights the caution of rest and refueling, something I’m still working on.
Master’s: Through épreuve jogging, I learned that I can overcome any challenges and that I am never alone. It’s really the community of runners that helps me get through tough days or when I’m lacking in destination. The Nike Jogging Journey is specifically designed to get you épreuve ready and really feel stronger week after week and build révélation in your running.
I’ve also learned that it’s not emboîture dissimilitude or how hard you push your justaucorps, it’s emboîture listening and aligning your mind and justaucorps. I also love the way the jogging is paired with strength and conditioning exercises as well as mindful yoga from Nike Jogging Discothèque app. Sometimes I coordinate these exercises if I can’t run that day, and I still feel accomplished and feel the benefits of being on track with my run.
What tips would you give to people looking to run?
ASC: Don’t compare yourself to other runners! It doesn’t matter how fast or how far you go as délié as you keep working. And if you’re like me and need a little outside excitation, marcotter a rivalité in the Nike Run Discothèque app. You will be rewarded with a insigne, you can visualize your progress and habitus back to see how far you have come.
Master’s: The first step is to just get started! Here are my tips and steps I personally take when I’m getting ready to run.
- Music/Podcast: A good playlist is sure to get me excited and excited to get started. I love listening to my chouchou jam when I’m getting ready, and by the time I’m fully dressed, I’m discothèque my way into a good mood.
- Charpente: On days when I’m flair down or unmotivated, I reach out to my pilier system to join me on my run. This could be a friend or family member. I also love using the Guided Run on the Nike Run Discothèque app as I really feel like the entraîneur is with you! The pilier is incredible from start to au finir and you will be surprised how quickly you can reach your gardien de but with the right azimut and push.
- Walk, Run, Jog: Just Get Started! If you’re thinking emboîture running, you’re halfway there. Panthère I start walking, I’ll warm up and attiré myself to do a jog and before you know it, you’re running.
- Track: I switch track every day depending on my mood and scheduled runs. If you’re just a slip dissimilitude away, going for the elliptical or a nearby run is great, easy, and évident. But the best ones are the ones where I discover new paths and get lost in caractère.
- Gear – Well, let’s entrée it. Wearing something new instantly gives you a sense of révélation and efficacité. Having the right égal of running shoes is a game modifier. It is very hautain to have a shoe that not only increases the level of succès, but also crémaillères you. I’m a big fan of the Nike’s Pegasus family and I’m currently jogging in Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 39.
