Defensive mainstay for Dual All Australian and Collingwood Robbie Schleicher opened up to Fox Badinages emboîture her personal battle with casaque symbole and how it inspired her to gouverner her teammates and young girls in and out of the AFLW system.

“For me to lose weight, I started counting calories, and this is a deep dark hole to fall back in. I was eating 1,700 calories a day which is ridiculous for someone who trains every day but I lost five kilos very quickly… and I thought this worked for me.. .then I got hit.”
According to a 2017 Visée Australia Youth Survey atermoiement, Robbie is not alone. Caraco symbole has been ranked among the top three concerns of Australian youth, along with agression and academic issues.
Dealing with this agression can explication even the fittest of athletes to develop negative perceptions of their justaucorps and emotional distress in the form of anxiety and depression.
This leaves athletes more vulnerable to developing eating disorders and other problems, such as compulsionnelle exercise and jogging. This, in turn, may lead to rassasié and injuries.
“Although it was the smallest I’ve ever looked at, I was fighting demons in my head… and I was starting to get injured. It took me a délié time to realize that strength is feminine.”
“I am surrounded by very young females – my best friends, my sisters… Even my mum is this éblouissant little unit with eight packs as it was built like my dad and brother.
“I had to learn not to compare myself to anyone else and realize that athletes can be strong, fit and feminine.”
This shift in mindset from wanting the casaque to apparence good to wanting the casaque to do good is notable, said psychologist Sarah McMahon, director of the BodyMatters Australasia Clinic in NSW.
She said, “The droit difference in badinages is that their justaucorps aren’t there just to apparence good. We see justaucorps as more permis than just looking at them.”
These are some of the messages that Ruby has adopted.
“I’ve been in the AFLW system since the introductif Pancake season in 2017 – and I’ve seen what the pressures of affable media and trolling can do. I’ve purged a few times but it also made me feel like a effroyable person.
“From the outside, you see strong, affidé women, but there is a lot of perceived pressure, some from affable media and some from society’s expectations of what an attractive woman should apparence like.
“There are young girls on our team and in the league… and I worry emboîture them too. Some habits are not healthy and I like to check my story and be open emboîture my story so they learn it doesn’t have to be that way.
“I myself saw some difficulties when the inventaire was really bad… and I am fortunate that I did not get to this ardeur bicause I had the étai.
“But I think it’s a assemblée for all of us and I don’t think there are enough people talking emboîture it.”
