Gulden already – Gülnur Özçetin, who said she wanted to adopt a dog because she was in love with her husband, realized this dream after her marriage. Stating they decided after seeing dog Rozzy on the adoption page, he said: “While my wife and I were single we wanted to adopt a dog separately but it wasn’t possible due to family circumstances. We met Rozzy on the social media adoption page 3 months after our wedding. We immediately messaged the person concerned. I was so excited that my excitement was immediately apparent. Our reunion went on. went smoothly and the next morning we took our daughter from the Ümraniye Hekimbaşı stray animal care home.
“I am against the purchase”
Expressing his opposition to buying and owning animals, Özçetin said, “I am against buying and selling. They have feelings like humans. Animals sold commercially in pet stores stay in cages and try to live in very harsh conditions. Sometimes she is hungry, sometimes she is even deprived of breast milk. We have souls waiting to be kissed on the street and in shelter. We should be their heroes, not their owners. In order not to participate in this business cycle, we are of the opinion to buy the property. For six months, Rozzy has been living with us. Given the current conditions, there are sometimes financial difficulties. But the way he looks at you and plays games feels like therapy. It is the most important of all. First you have to be patient. In this process, as your pet gets used to you, you get along well.
“Our walks have increased”
Saying that their physical activities have increased since the day they adopted Rozzy, Özçetin addressed those who will adopt animals:
“First of all, our morning and evening walks have increased, it gets us out. This allows us to get clean oxygen. Even on the dullest days, we say go for a ride, Rozzy. We are more sensitive to stray animals. He is like our son. I think people who have pets are more emotional and compassionate. You taste feelings that you do not know. It is a very important decision. People living in apartments, in particular, should take on a lot of responsibility. Living with a dog is something that a conscious, loving, and compassionate person can handle. You are taking responsibility for another creature and that creature is very dependent on you. He looks you in the eye every moment and loves you endlessly. You have to accept it in all its terms.”
make sure beforehand
The other important thing is that you have a child now and you need to plan your expenses accordingly. You may have to spend a lot of money on his illnesses, checkups, health. It is very important that he is not alone on vacation and traveling. If you truly believe you can do all of this, you can be sure that you will meet your best friend. If these substances are difficult for you, you can experience this love by going to animal shelters and helping the dogs there, by sharing your love.
“The veterinary costs are not very high”
Istanbul Chamber of Veterinarians Chairman of the Board Prof. Dr. Murat Arslan answered Milliyet’s questions regarding the pet adoption process. While many pet owners leave their dogs and cats on the streets, some are turned over to shelters on the grounds that vet and food costs are high. Stating that owning an animal takes a great responsibility, Prof. Dr. Arslan said: “Unfortunately, when our children want it, sometimes a life can be given to a lover or a friend. The biggest mistake is here. We say: “If you are going to share your house with another living being, first decide if your house is suitable for him, if you can provide him with the necessary comfort, at least if you can provide for his basic needs. It is a very difficult decision. After calculating all this, you must decide by consulting a veterinarian if necessary. We go there randomly. We take the animal. When difficulties arise, we then leave it on the street.
“We don’t get any support”
Veterinarians complete their training in 5 years. Just like doctors for 5 years, dentists for 6 years, they undergo a difficult training. And he does a professional job. Everyone thinks that we are an institution that receives support from the state or elsewhere. Unlike the others, it is the only profession that develops and survives without the insurance system without any state support. We cover everything ourselves. There are clinics with a monthly expense of 25,000 lira. Almost all clinics take care of at least 10 stray animals free of charge. But when we say “Take it to the local authorities” about an animal, we face accusations about how you throw it on the street. Veterinary costs are also not very high. Nearly one hundred percent increase for medicine, food and dental materials. In some cases, it is more than 100%. We work for a low salary in comparison.
“It will be more difficult to leave him in the street”
Emphasizing that with the application of the microchip which will register the animals, Prof. Murat Arslan said: “All animals must be identified and microchipped by the end of 2022. and a rapid
path is made. We also distribute these microchips and newsletters. In this regard, people will not be able to leave their animals on the street. We will be able to find out who owns the animal thanks to this microchip. There is a serious penalty for this too. It will be even more difficult to leave him on the street,” he said.
