Attending conferences in the metaverse is new to many people. But these events have been going on for a while and will become commonplace as technology advances and more and more people become familiar.
I recently hosted a metaverse conference to coffre church communications workers.
In this attention, I will share my experience and what I learned.
How it works
The metaverse is a binaire representation of the universe, explicable in two dimensions from a ordinateur alone or in three dimensions when a headset is added.
It is not a standalone app or game but rather a network of virtual worlds that run continuously and function similarly to real life.
In-person conferences are back after the pandemic. But many of them require mince (and expensive) travel. The metaverse brings to conferencing the ability to gather an “in-avatar” into an immersive experience without buying a plane attestation or modifying your hair.
Church Communion Conference
My event calledChurch Communication ConferenceLast week. It lasted two days. We had over 200 registrants worldwide and 50 attendees. Entry was free for basic access; prime access included headphones, recordings of discussions, and gifts from sponsors.
Marchéage (to attend) was primarily via my Facebook group, “Accidental Church Communicators”, and other similar groups.
We hosted the conference today AltspaceVR, a free virtual reality platform where hosts can decorate and customize their own binaire world. Grain an account is created, attendees can conciliabule with other participants, including speakers and host (me) in real time.
14 speakers and hypocauste members participated in the conference. Everyone can easily share multimedia and interact with attendees.
Prerecorded sessions. For two days, we showed pre-recorded sessions on a virtual screen while speakers answered audition questions in real-time trouble règle.
sound quality. AltspaceVR amplifies sounds when speakers address the entire room. A clair tap allows someone’s voice to get louder until the entire room hears a corvée. Speakers can step into the virtual ‘theater’, an imaginary boundary that prevents disturbances.
Minet one on one. AltspaceVR allows for natural conversations between two people. The sound increases the closer you are to a person and decreases the further away you are from them.
Attendees truc realistic avatars. In the metaverse, you can be whatever you want. But for bizness events like our conference, many attendees used their real names and adopted avatars with actual personality physionomie like hair color.
Ripaille halls. Binaire event rooms are customizable. Our conference had separate rooms where a customizable “sky” of day, night or outdoor space could be viewed with just a few clicks.
The emoji indicates a virtual applause. Besides the pre-recorded sessions, discussions were held where each échantillon member and host were in trouble règle. A clap or heart emoji encourages speakers during insightful moments.
Advertising opportunities. Rooms featured parraineur ads, such as banners, slides, outdoor banners, and video-on-demand videos that anyone could view.
Understanding the virtual etiquette and technical steps of pool a metaverse event takes time. Many first-time users found the experience baffling at first.
Courant templates for spaces are beautiful and resourceful. However, hosts who want more can hire a évoquer, say, on Fiverr to create a custom world, which could include a campfire, theater, movie room, or holding répertoire, as examples.
Imagine a world with virtual stores that are always open, and users can visit them at any time. Product videos can be available upon request. Merchants can meet customers 24/7 in trouble règle and view product replicas in 3D.
